The melodious charm of the perkutut bird once again echoed in Pasuruan, bringing together more than 700 enthusiasts from across the country. On September 13-14, 2025, the National Contest of Natural Perkutut Birdsong was held at the Raci Air Force Field, showcasing not only the passion of bird lovers but also the positive impact the event brings to the local community.

As part of the 1,096th anniversary celebration of Pasuruan Regency, the competition was organized by the Pasuruan Regency Tourism Office in collaboration with the Indonesian Perkutut Preservation Association (P3SI). Participants came from as far as Kalimantan, Central Java, Yogyakarta, Jakarta, and Bali, reflecting the enduring popularity of the perkutut tradition.

Head of the Pasuruan Tourism Office, Agus Hari Wibawa, explained that some participants even arrived several days earlier so their birds could adapt comfortably to the environment. "There were participants who stayed for three days to make sure their perkutut would not become stressed and could adjust to the contest location," he said.

The competition was held over two days. The first day featured categories for senior chicks, junior chicks, and hanging chicks, while the second day highlighted adult senior and junior categories. To maintain fairness, the organizers appointed 50 national judges, all from P3SI's central board, ensuring professionalism in the assessment.

Pasuruan Regional Secretary, Yudha Triwidya Sasongko, emphasized that the contest was more than just a gathering of bird lovers. "The perkutut has its own unique charm. Its melodious song can relieve stress, while caring for it strengthens bonds with family and nature. Beyond that, this event also helps small businesses and food vendors thrive, boosting the local economy," he explained.

The 2025 National Perkutut Birdsong Contest not only reaffirmed the timeless appeal of the perkutut tradition but also proved to be an event that unites people, uplifts communities, and supports local livelihoods.
